The Workshop brought together researchers from Australia and the EU in the areas of coal production and coal utilisation.

The purpose of the Workshop was

    - to support the further development of clean coal technology,
    - to support the clean use of Australian coal to meet European
      environmental requirements, and
    - to develop co-operative research projects in Europe, Australia
      and developing countries.
